WHAT TO EXPECT

Consultation & Treatment

In your first session we have the chance to meet and get to know one another a little.  I'll ask you about your current situation and what led you to consider therapy. We can discuss various options and you can decide whether or not you would like to continue. Sometimes people attend more than one consultation session before deciding upon whether they would like to begin therapy.

If we decide to continue into treatment we will usually meet weekly and sessions will usually last 50 minutes.

I draw on a range of evidence-based therapy approaches in the work. These include Cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Compassion-focussed therapy (CFT), Mindfulness practice, and Mentalisation-based therapy (MBT). However, the number of different therapy approaches can often feel quite dizzying and the evidence tends to change. I am particularly interested in finding a shared way of talking about distress with people who come for therapy, so that they might better understand their situation, thereby gaining some relief and hopefully a greater sense of meaning in their day to day lives.
